I heard Trump wants to rename Denali after a long dead president. Trump thinks William McKinley, who was the 25th president from 1897-1901, was the real deal. Yes, McKinley was big on tariffs, but the real reason Trump likes him is for his conquest of Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines. I'm not familiar with the history of the other three, but I think we all know how the U.S. military deposed Queen Liliʻuokalani at the behest of the Dole Pineapple Company, on the pretense of "protecting American interests". In other words, it was an illegal act. You can see why Trump likes this guy.
Of course we know Trump is dreaming of his own conquests. Greenland and Panama are just for starters. He shares McKInley's imperialist instincts. McKinley, of course was assassinated six months into his second term. Fortunately, we all know that Trump is bulletproof, so we don't have to worry about that.
If you've followed my bike riding posts you know I like to refer to the local mountains by their native names. I'm hoping we can start a trend, maybe get our state legislatures to make it official. Here are a few of the ones I know about, from north to south.
Native names for Cascade Mountain Peaks
Tahoma | Rainier |
Louwala-Clough | St. Helens |
Pahto | Adams |
Wy'East | Hood |
Seekseekqua | Jefferson |
tcha Timanwi | Mary's Peak (Coast Range) |
Klah Klahne | South Sisters |
M'laiksini Yaina | McLoughlin |
Let's lobby our state representatives and get these names restored.
