Day 2 - 54 Miles
Didn't sleep very well and woke up with a headache. Actually the headache started before I went to bed. Probably dehydrated as I also got a leg cramp in the night when I got up to pee. Yesterday was the first hot day of the season.
Had a very slow morning. No rush as I decided to just head home rather than spend another night. The sun was out but filtered as I was under the tress. Still I was able to get te orange tarp dry, and the tent rainfly mostly dry. I used the towel to wipe off the last of the moisture. Didn't bother with a morning fire.
This is a great free campsite by the river above Applegate lake. It is popular with the locals however and started getting noisy this morning. Kids on ATVs and bigger kids playing with guns, and lots of pickups speeding up the road. Linda says there are a number of other camp spots like this further up the river. However it's a gravel road and I don't fell much like riding my loaded touring bike up it.
Finally started riding at about 11. Took it really slow. Explored up Carberry road. There were a bunch of cars and trucks parked at one spot so I stopped to see what was going on. They were all scuba divers. Must be a club or a school. Can't imagine what there is to see at the very top end of the reservoir. Carberry road only goes about a mile before turning to gravel. It then continues to the top of Thompson Creek road and on into the town of Applegate.
Stopped at Cantrall-Buckley park for lunch. Great place on the river not far from Ruch. The river is quite wide here. Sat on the grass and had a snack. I was now in cell range but just Edge, no 3G. I figured this was a really good test of BlogPress as I had embedded a bunch of photos and a video in last nights post. I was very impressed. It took no more than 5-10 minutes to upload the pictures to Picasa, the video to YouTube, and post it all on my website. Now I'm thinking I may not even bother taking my Netbook on my tour. With BlogrPress, and Track My Tour, I can do it all from the iPhone.
Not as thrilled with my Solio charger. As far as I can tell it was full by the end of the day yesterday, but that was only enough to give my iPhone half a charge. And today it was cloudy and the Solio just got enough to charge the iPhone for a few minutes. I may have to upgrade.
Ran into Jerry Rhodes on South Stage as he was returning from riding Evans Creek. He had 90 miles. Ran into David on Colver as he was driving home from doing the Lakes Loop. Got home around 5.
