Weekly Commute
Rain, heavy rain. Got pretty wet a couple of times. Cleared up Friday for a nice ride into Philomath.
Rain, heavy rain. Got pretty wet a couple of times. Cleared up Friday for a nice ride into Philomath.
Epic ride through the coast range. Rainy day, but not cold. During the week a friend told me about a route to the coast that was all paved, and bypassed most of Hwy 20. Between Philomath and Blodgett the highway has a pretty good shoulder. I turned North at Blodgett on the Blodgeet/Eddyville road. From there is was only 5 miles to Summit. I didn't go any farther toward the coast but the road will take you to Siletz, and from there you can go either to Newport or Lincoln City.
At Summit I saw a sign "Kings Valley 12 miles". I knew it wouldn't be paved the whole way but I was riding my Mountain Trucker so no problem. This was the highlight of the ride. An unknown gravel road over a ridge through the coast range. This is what it's all about. There was a good climb but nothing the mountain trucker couldn't handle. The road came out at Hoskins. I left the Upper Lukiamute road to explore another day.
Days are getting longer and a little warmer. Two rides to Philomath, and a couple of others around town.
Bike club ride. Finally figured out that the slower group waits for the other group to start first. I always take off with the fast group and get dropped. I did so today but then stopped and waited for the other group to catch up. Gorgeous day. Cold to start but warmed up to the low 50s. Rivers are very swollen. Heavy rains while we were gone.
2 rides in Florida. One short ride along a bike path, and a longer ride on Flamingo road. I was riding my sister's Jamis Citizen upright hybrid.
3 days. Roads are clear but rode the Mountain Trucker anyhow. Off to Florida for a week.
4 days. Thus was actually on the Mountain Trucker as it snowed.
Dimple Hill and McCullough Peak. The sun was shining in the valley, but not so much in the woods. Two big climbs. The road up McCullough peak is very steep. The peak is 2175' so it takes some climbing.
Some rain, not bad. A little warmer. Not so dark either.
Got dropped early. Slow group never formed. Beautiful day. 30 and full sun to start. Warmed up quickly.
3days. Fog finally lifted. Still no rain.
Got tired of the fog. Drove to Sunnyside park east of Sweet Home. Got out of the fog as soon as I started riding. Sunny and warmer at the lake. There doesn't seem to be a road all the way around the lake, so I just did an out and back on Quartzville road. May have to explore some more when the days are longer.
Fog, fog, and more fog.
Headed out into the wind. Could only manage 8 MPH at times. Then the rain came. Shedd store closed. Enjoyed the tailwind for a while, but then had to fight the cross wind most of the way back.
Started the year off with a full week of commuting The weather was fine. Enjoying my new light which makes the rides home in the dark much better.
2 days. Fog lifted today so I did a mid day ride to Philomath.
Just two days but got to finish the year off with a nice ride to Philomath. My goal had been to ride less in 2013 and do more hiking or swimming. I failed. Got more miles then last year.
Started out with the 9:00 club ride. As usually I got dropped early on, but there was also a group behind me. They passed me when I stopped for a cup of tea in Shedd. I met back up with them in Brownsville and had company for the ride home. Cold and foggy all morning. The sun started peaking through for the last hour or less..
Only 2 work days this week, but got in a couple of other trips to town. Got a new light. It is a Lumotec IQ Premium Fly RT Senso Plus from Busch and Muller - http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/b&m-hl.asp . A nice upgrade. I bit brighter but much better focused beam than my previous light. Cold and foggy all week.
Lovely day. Took a side road to one of the access points on the Luckiamute River and noticed my rear tire was very low. Pumped it up and it help all the way home. Over 5000 miles and no flats on these Schwalbe Marathon tires.
Made up a song on the way home. Could be a good one.
Nice day. Was planning on a longer ride but had no umph. Maybe tomorrow.
Snow is gone. Some fog, light rain, and ice one morning. Shortesat day of the year is past.
Up into the fog. Snow is gone. Down Horse Trail.
3 days on snow pack and frigid conditions. Friday it warmed up and melted.
Took the mountain Trucker for an icy ride after yesterday's snow. Most of the roads are just packed snow which has now glazed over and is mostly ice. Did fine though when I finally let some air out of my tires it did even better. Rode into to the bike shop and took the Surly Pugsly out for a spin. What a blast riding a fat bike in the snow.
4 days. Snowed in on Friday. Very cold.
3 day week. Thanksgiving. Still very cold.
Sunny, nest 50. Nice easy ride.
Very cold overnight so I waited until after noon to get started. Warmed up to almost 50. Very nice. Up Jackson Creek, down Oak Creek. Over to Bald Hill through town and home.
Got cold this week, down in the 20's. Clear and bright though.
Out sick 2 days. Fog, rain, wind. It's November.
Had to get out in the woods today. Up Jackson Cr to rd 600, north to Lewisburg Saddle, then rd 500 north. Missed the turn to Peevey Arboretum, Took Banzai trail down. Mostly straight down, and not terribly steep. The only thing to slow you down were the water bars. Rd 640 back to Arboretum and 99w back info town..
6 rides plus some around town. Dark after work now. Light rain early in the week.
Started out with the MVBC but got dropped early on. Started out in light drizzle which soon let up. The wind did not. Mostly out of the west so more of a side wind. Bellfountain to Monroe. Old River Road to 99 to Smith Loop to 99. A couple of heavy showers on the way back.
Milking the last daylight of the year for after work rides
Another week with no rain. Morning fog quite thick but afternoons sunny, except for Friday.
Met Linda and JJ in Salem at a fall harvest festival. Tried to go up the steep hill outside of Independence- Orville, but it was too steep. Had to continue on River Rd through Salem. The roads were good but a lot of traffic. Beautiful day, warm after the fog lifted.
Wouldn't normally log such a short ride, but I though it was pretty cool that I could get to the top of the hill at Chip Ross Park, and back, and 6 miles. Amaxing view up there today.
Very nice week. Cold foggy mornings, warm sunny afternoons. 3 long rides. One with Manuel.
I shouldn't log these rides. Just showed that I'm obsessed with miles.
